Timely Warning – Aggravated Assault

On 07/20/2022 at approximately 9:00 p.m. the UGA Police Department received several calls about suspicious sounds similar to gunshots near the Marathon gas station on Baxter Street at Finley Street. No one in the area claimed to see a gun or any shots being fired. Officers later found video that showed an unknown male firing two shots with a handgun from the north side of Baxter Street towards another unknown male on the opposite side of the street across from the gas station. The incident followed what appeared to be a verbal altercation between the individuals. The individual who fired the shots ran north away from campus along Finley Street after the incident. At this time, there is no indication that anyone involved was struck or injured in any way, and no one has reported being shot at.

The individual who fired the shots is described as a black male with a medium complexion, of average build, with shoulder length black hair and possible sparse facial hair, wearing a light blue tee shirt, black gym shorts with orange and red stripes on the sides, black shoes, and a bright blue backpack.

Based on the information known at this time, there are no indications that there is any continued threat to the area. UGA Police are actively patrolling the area, and the incident is currently under investigation.
