TTY Communications

The UGA Police Department provides equal access to citizens using TTY (text telephone) devices for communications. TTY is a text message system that is used by speech impaired and/or deaf and hard of hearing to communicate via phone lines with other TTY users.

TTYs have a keyboard and display associated with a telephone that allows speech impaired and/or deaf and hard of hearing persons to communicate, via the telephone line, with hearing and speech capable persons. TTYs are available at the UGA Disability Services Office in Clark Howell Hall.

Type that you need FIRE, POLICE, or EMS help and type your address. Try to answer any questions that the call taker may ask. Help can be dispatched before hanging up so don’t think that the questions will delay police response. By answering our questions, it will ensure that the correct help is dispatched to the correct location. Our call takers have been trained in TTY use and will understand commonly used TTY abbreviations and standard messages.
